What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an exciting alternative to traditional braces for patients seeking orthodontic treatment. Many people fear the pain and visual detraction from their appearance that come with metal braces. With Invisalign, teeth can be straightened with clear plastic aligners that are virtually invisible. This system offers, comfort, convenience, and discretion to anyone looking for a straighter smile.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign uses a series of removable “aligners” that gradually push teeth into their proper positions. Your dentist will take impressions and radiographs of your teeth, inputting this data into a computer program that allows you to see the progression of your treatment plan from start to finish. Once you and your dentist are satisfied with your treatment plan, a series of aligners will be produced for you at an Invisalign lab.
Each aligner is custom designed to fit your teeth, and is worn for approximately two weeks before moving on to the next one. These aligners resemble whitening trays or retainers, and can be removed so that you can easily eat, drink, brush, and floss without trouble. The aligners are comfortable and do not irritate the soft tissues of your mouth. Much like traditional braces, these aligners use applied pressure to adjust the position of your teeth. Unlike metal braces, this pressure is selectively applied, only focusing on a few teeth at a time, speeding up treatment time as unnecessary adjustments do not need to be corrected.
